Karl Lindholm was a Dean at Middlebury College for nearly 35 years, while also teaching in the American Studies Program. He worked in the Dean of Students Office for 15 years, the first 12 with the remarkable Erica Wonnacott before succeeding her as Dean of Students from 1988–90. He was a Dean or Faculty Head in all five residential commons. Karl graduated from Middlebury in 1967 as an English major and returned in 1976 after teaching in secondary schools in Maine and Ohio. He earned his Ph.D. in American Studies from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He is married to Brett Millier, the Reginald Cook Professor of American Literature at Middlebury and lives in Cornwall, just three miles from the center of campus.
