Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m.
Presented as part of Independent Bookstore Day at the Vermont Book Shop, 38 Main St.
Local author Jennifer Cyr will lead a mini workshop "Telling Spirit Animal Stories with Words and Pictures."
Cyr recently self-published Honu Meets Kiyaya, illustrated by Jess Marony, an uplifting story about an unlikely friendship between a sea turtle and wolf. The characters learn about each other, and in doing so, forge a special bond. With lush illustrations and wonderful characters, Honu and Kiyaya is a beautiful story that young children will love to hear, and their caregivers will appreciate the thoughtful conversations that will be sparked by the timeless story.
Jennifer Cyr is an early educator with a background in Psychology and Human Services. Her work with young children has been ongoing since she was a teenager. Now in her 40's, she has been unraveling the pieces of her life that no longer fit, and she is finally becoming the person she was meant to be all along. Writing has been a vital part of the journey, and it has prompted her to share her thoughts in a way that connects to the children in her community. Jennifer has always thought that children are our most important work, and strives to nurture their spirit and sense of self to create more resilient young people.
In its fifth year, Independent Bookstore Day, Saturday, April 27th, celebrates independent bookstores nationwide with literary parties and events around the country. It's a day to discover Vermont's independent bookstores!
